As I discussed a few weeks ago, I have been struggling lately with a vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is found in my multivitamin, but I’ve been supplementing on top of that with a twice-daily vitamin D and calcium supplement that provides 400% the recommended daily allowance. It did the trick a little; after 60 days of my increased vitamin D intake, I no longer have a critical deficiency. But I am still at the very low end of normal. My doctor is puzzled about why my levels are still so borderline after two straight months of rigorous supplementation. He suspects that since I have a history of bone and joint problems, my body is metabolizing it very quickly to help compensate for my lack of bone and joint strength.

Because I also have some elevated liver enzymes happening concurrently with this deficiency, I’ll be going in for an ultrasound next month to make sure my liver seems to be undamaged and a normal size. In the interim, my doctor urged me to continue my vitamin D supplementation, and perhaps even to consider upping my dosage. The supplements I had been taking were a little on the pricey side, so I began looking around to see if I could find something a little more affordable. I was really pleased to discover a vitamin D supplement that was not only more affordable, but that packs a lot more of a wallop. Clinical D3 Micro-tabs provide a higher dose of vitamin D3 for people like me who need much more aggressive vitamin D supplementation. It is specifically recommended for patients like me who have low blood levels of vitamin D and need more than a typical physiological dose to replete their levels.

I’ll be interested to see how my chronic pain levels fare when faced with a much higher dose of vitamin D; if my doctor is right, and my body is just gobbling up the supplement, this may ease some of my pain. And as a bonus, it may help me with my weight loss struggles; recent studies have shown a correlation between vitamin D deficiency and weight gain – perhaps changing my inside will help me change my outside too.
